Frequently Asked Questions

  • Where will the posing/scanning session take place?
At this time we are offering scanning sessions in our garden studio in a village close by to Guildford, Surrey. You will arrive at my home (with good parking, phew!) and together we will make our way to the warm, private, comfortable (indoor) space in the garden. Or if you are local to the area and would rather stay in the comfort of your own home then this can be organised too. Please contact us at ellie@motherbare.co.uk for more information and scheduling.
  • Is 3D scanning safe in pregnancy?
Absolutely. The light technology that is used in a 3D scanner is the same light wavelength as used in a normal camera flash, and the scanner is simply reading the curvature of the projected light across your skin.
  • How far through my pregnancy should I make my booking?
The perfect window of opportunity is any time between 30-36 weeks gestation. When your bump is blooming, yet not ready to pop just yet, so we can highly guarantee that you'll make it to your booking before baby chooses to arrive.
  • What are the methods of payment?
We ask for a deposit of £150 via our website at the point of making your session booking. This value is deducted from the final price of your statue. The remaining £330 can be paid by card on the day of your scan, or we can provide payment details before or after this day, whenever you prefer. We will commence the production of your sculpture once full payment has been confirmed.
  • Is the scanning safe if I have diagnosed epilepsy?
The flashing lights of our 3D scanner unfortunately can be a trigger for those with photo-sensitive epilepsy, specifically. We are sorry to say that we are unable to offer you a scan.
  • Can I rearrange (or cancel) my appointment?
Please send us an email at ellie@motherbare.co.uk with your current booking details and we will be in touch to suggest an alternative date for you. Send the message as soon as you can! If you need to unfortunately cancel, then we are happy to refund your deposit if there is at least a weeks notice given.
  • Do I need to bring anything along to my posing session?
We ask that you wear loose fitting clothes and underwear on your journey to us, to avoid seam lines on your skin for the smoothest scanning results. Please also bring along something to tie up your hair so that it can be off of your neck. We will have hairbands and clips if you forget, so don't worry! If you feel that you'd like to be wearing underwear (or you are undecided and want to bring them along just in case) then the most ideal style for best results is a non-VPL nude coloured thong, or at the least a light coloured plain garment.
  • Can my partner/friend/mum join me?
Please do, if you wish to. It's an exciting time and we want you to share this experience with those you are close to. We have space for one or two accompanying adults in our garden studio space. You are also welcome to enjoy some peace on a solo trip of course...a bit of me time away from the the hustle of toddler/work life is also a valid choice!
  • How long does a session last?
We schedule an hour together to make sure you're relaxed, spend some time looking through sculptures and discussing poses before getting you ready for the scanning. You will also be able to see your digital models while you are here, a little sneaky peek of what your statue is going to look like. No need to choose your favourite within this hour though.
  • Do I need to be naked for the scan?
We do believe that the best results will be from you being nude, yes, with options of you covering your breasts with your hands or arm if that feels good for you (this is one of the most favoured poses). Some choose to wear a seamless thong (skin tone please) and still get fabulous models, but there are chances of visible lines on the statue due to the detailed nature of the scan. We do our best to digitally edit these out. There is no need to be hairless for the scan either, come as you are naturally comfortable. You will not be able to see any hair texture on your finished sculpture if that is what you wish. Most importantly we want you to feel safe and relaxed during this experience.
  • What is the scanning process?
We use a handheld 3D scanner that uses structured light technology, projecting high frequency flashes of white light to accurately record the physical surfaces of your body. We slowly walk around you, moving the camera up and down to capture your pregnancy as you are comfortably posed. Each scan takes approximately 2 minutes, where you can then release your pose and instantly see the initial unedited image before deciding if you like it or want to try something different.
  • Do I need to choose a final pose and design of my sculpture during the allocated session time?
No. It is understood from experience that it takes some time to consider which pose/scan you would like to have made into your statue. You may want to ask loved ones thoughts or, like me, intensely flick between your options for a silly amount of time before you finalise a decision. After your session we can send you the digital images of your poses to look over in private, and once we hear from you (and have received any outstanding payment) we can start production. Same goes for the design/colour choices.
  • When will I receive my statue?
Once your baby has been born you can expect another exciting delivery. Our production timeline aims to have your statue ready for safe transfer to your given address within 3 months after your scan date. You will receive an email to confirm your shipping address before postage, for those that may be moving house AND having a baby!
  • How do I look after my statue?
Your statue is made for display, so please find a wonderfully visual and safe space for it to settle and be enjoyed. Handle it carefully as desired, being aware that the impact of a hard drop may damage the structure or finish of the model (so maybe not for the hands of children). Dust it softly with a dry cloth without chemicals/spray.
